Tanner is a PICKY eater. He likes a few fruits, bread, and CHEESE CHEESE CHEESE. Pretty much he is obsessed with cheese and cottage cheese and eats it multiple times a day. That said, does anybody have any good food suggestions to try for an almost one year old??? He won't eat veggies at all unless I sneak them in his food without him knowing. What were your children's favorite foods at that age? When can I start introducing berries, oranges, etc?
Also, I need some good toy suggestions to get Tanner for his birthday on Dec 17th and Christmas. I won't be the type of parent that gets him a combined birthday/christmas present so I need some good ideas that I can use for both. Toys that he can use for the whole year from 12-24 months! Any broad or specific suggestions????
Thanks for the help! You are great peeps!

Wow-sounds like a picky eater I had about that age. Xander discovered he liked anything on a chip at this age.So I would dip tortilla chips into black beans, mild salsa or even mangoes and he would eat it if it was on a chip or in a tortilla. Lately I started him on more smoothies with yogurt and fruit and milk and he likes that.
For gifts, Xander loved (and still uses) a swing that hangs from a tree branch in our backyard. One of this blue and red little tikes ones. He also loved the little plastic slide we got him and keep inside in the winter. Matchbox cars, wood blocks and farm animals were also a hit.Hopefully these help!
One thing that really helped my active little boys enjoy reading was the Osborne Touchy Feely books. Each page has a different texture and the words are very repetitive for there participation enjoyment.
The titles are "that's not my ___" there are some 20 + titles and some of our fav's are "that's not my robot" and "that's not my train"
As for the food... just keep offering over and over again! Pat yourself on the back for every small bite he takes. As long as you don't have allergies running in your family you can give him berries, eggs, etc. whenever you want. The only thing my kids waited on was honey. They had everything before there first birthdays (including peanut butter). Try acorn squash, it's the same color as cheese LOL
Hey... this is sounding familiar...
Oh wait! - I know why - because I have an exclusive cheese/cottage cheese eater as well.
That being said, don't worry as much as I did. It'll pass, trust me. He ate cottage cheese straight from about 7-12 months (he even filtered out the fruit I tried to hide in there). Try yogurt with fruit, maybe sprinkle some Cheerios in there if that'll entice him. I had to distract him by placing toys on his tray or turn on Baby Einstein and fed him while he was tuned into something else... oh wait, I still have to do that. In fact, we're back to baby food cause he likes the texture more than eating whole veggies.
Ethan loves those bead/block mazes (you know, with the wires), books are always good, introduce him to balls and cars (Ethan can't get enough), & Ethan loved and still loves this...

I've said too much... oh but I have more!!! :) Some other time perhaps...
picky eaters are the WORST! wade has gone through phases of picky eating, and it's tough, but try everything and eventually they'll like new stuff. applesauce & yogurt are great. you should try the gerber yogurt melts--it's in the baby food section. wade loved them.
as far as presents go... ikea has GREAT and inexpensive toys for babies. (and it just so happens to be super close to my house). :) he also loved the touch & feel books like "that's not my dinosaur" or "that's not my robot" books. umm... you could get him a riding car toy too. those are really fun and wade still plays with them. so fun! i can't believe tanner is almost 1!
FOOD: Timothy eats just about everything we eat now but his faves are pizza, chicken, string cheese, avocados, french fries, black beans, lasagna, mac&cheese, yogurt and bananas.
TOYS: I am planning to get him the Little Tykes coupe for Christmas and maybe some blocks. He loves stuff he can climb on or push around the house.
Are we still on for Saturday?Hope so!
have you tried frozen vegetables? just give them to him frozen, maybe the coldness will interest him and he can pick them up one by one. get the frozen veggie mix so he has some variety.
try frozen grapes too. they are easy to freeze and munch.
Amie especially loved frozen peas, and Jordan, too. They still do! Adam wouldn't have anything to do with them, and still won't. Jake is indifferent. You might try them on Tanner!
Duplo blocks live on forever and there are so many cute sets! It's nice to be able to add more and more to them for birthdays and Christmas. Then it makes the old stuff come alive again! My boys have always loved Legos, and it all started out with Duplo blocks as toddlers. Check some of the sets out at: http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Department.aspx?d=104&CMP=KAC-GOOGNA&HQS=duplo
I don't have any ideas about toys or food. Sorry! But I have a question about housing! Could you e-mail me?? kejane@gmail.com Thanks Sara!
